Global Youth Adaptation Summit In the Netherlands (Funded)

The Global Youth Adaptation Summit is a specialized high-level event organized by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) in partnership with various international bodies. While the 2022 summit was a key milestone in Rotterdam, the GCA continues to mobilize young leaders annually through its Youth Leadership Program.

For 2026, the focus has shifted toward institutionalizing youth voices in National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Summit Highlights & Objectives

The program is designed to bridge the gap between young climate activists and global decision-makers.

  • Capacity Building: Interactive workshops on climate finance, nature-based solutions, and adaptation policy.
  • Direct Dialogue: Opportunities to present “Youth Recommendations” to high-level dignitaries (e.g., UN officials and government ministers).
  • YouthAdapt Challenge: Showcasing the winners of the African Youth Adaptation Solutions Challenge, where young entrepreneurs receive grants of up to $100,000.

Scholarship & Funding

The GCA typically provides several scholarship options for its summits to ensure a low-carbon and inclusive event:

  • Fully Funded Spots: Available for highly qualified young leaders (18–35) who demonstrate significant impact in their local communities.
  • Regional Travel Grants: Priority is often given to participants who can reach the summit (Rotterdam or other regional hubs) via sustainable transport (train/bus) to minimize the carbon footprint.
  • Hybrid Format: Virtual participation is widely available for global delegates who cannot attend in person.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 18 to 35 years old at the time of application.
  • Experience: Proven track record in climate adaptation action, advocacy, or research.
  • Language: High proficiency in English for in-person attendance.
  • Commitment: Must attend preparatory virtual calls and the full two-day summit.

GCA Youth Advisory Panel 2026

In addition to the summit, the GCA has opened applications for its CEO’s Youth Advisory Panel 2026.

  • Role: Providing strategic advice to the GCA on its youth engagement strategy.
  • Requirement: Applicants must have previously participated in at least two GCA initiatives (like the Youth Adaptation Forum or Action Day).
  • Deadline: Generally falls in early February each year.

How to Stay Involved

Since the specific 2022 dates have passed, the most active way to join the 2026/2027 cycle is through the Youth Adaptation Network (YAN):

  1. Register: Join the Youth Adaptation Network to receive updates on upcoming forums.
  2. Organize: Participate in the Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day (held annually in October) to gain eligibility for the Advisory Panel.
  3. Apply: Watch for the next “Global Youth Call to Action” which typically opens in the lead-up to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP).
